The Iraq War, also known as the Second Gulf War or the Occupation of Iraq, is an ongoing military campaign which began on March 20, 2003 with the invasion of Iraq by multinational troops from the United States and United Kingdom. Before the war, the U.S. and U.K. claimed that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction (WMD). The number of Iraqis killed through 2007 ranges from "a conservative cautious minimum" of more than 85,000 civilians. About 4.7 million Iraqis were uprooted through April 2008 (about 16% of the population of Iraq), two million of whom had fled to neighboring countries fleeing the bad humanitarian situation.
